LoFi Engine
An endless lo-fi radio: every note is made as you listen.
Nothing to install: press PLAY. The sound is made entirely on your device, inside the browser; nothing is sent anywhere. Share a track’s link and the other person hears the same track. Works on phones too.
It uses no recorded tracks, loops or samples. Pick a mood and the harmony, melody, bass, drums and ambience are generated on the spot, for hours, without repeating themselves:
- Four moods: chill, jazzy, sleepy and rainy, each with its own tempo, chord families, groove and drum kit.
- A living arrangement: a track starts sparse, fills out, thins down; the melody comes and goes in call-and-response phrases and the progression slowly evolves.
- Tape and vinyl: tape saturation and flutter, vinyl crackle, reverb and a lo-fi filter — plus rain, tape hiss, room tone and café murmur.
- Made for long listening: the tempo drifts gently and the key changes every half hour to an hour. Auto DJ changes the mood on its own; Day Mode follows the clock.
- Save to WAV: writes a 10-minute, 30-minute or one-hour track to a file without stopping the music, in the browser and in the desktop apps alike.
Every track grows from a seed number, and the same seed always plays the same track. Share the link to one you like, or save it as a preset; preset files move freely between the browser and the desktop apps.
The same idea on a real Commodore 64, on three SID voices: LOFI64.
